Tegucigalpa - School Report Question and Answers

How would you rate the school's support and welcome/integration of new students and their families, and why?

The staff is very welcoming and the younger students are very welcoming. Most of the high schoolers are welcoming and the parents WANT to be welcoming but my lack of language skills bored them quickly, LOL. I suffered through half a dozen senior parent meetings conducted in Spanish that were an unbelievable waste of my time but I was expected to attend because the local parents are incredibly involved in every single detail of their children's lives. - Mar 2023

They were very supportive and very welcoming. Teachers chatted with us as we passed by on the tour, everyone smiled at the school (students and teachers). It just felt so welcoming! - Mar 2023

The school does host some "back to school" type events, but many took place during the day which was difficult for two working parents. Most of the integration took place naturally through the classes themselves and the Whats App groups associated with each class. - Jul 2019

10/10. They are very inclusive with new kids. Families are warmly welcomed to new families. Kids were very welcoming too. - Sep 2018

Fantastic... My son met his classmates and teachers before he arrived via video chat so they were expecting him when we arrived and that was awesome since we were going for 4 years in Virginia before our move. - May 2018

adequate - we started a few weeks after the school year had begun - Mar 2017

We never felt integrated as parents, although my son was very happy (initially). At school events, none of the local parents would even speak with us. My child was never invited to Honduran children's birthdays. - Jun 2016

C They act welcoming, but when problems arise, their attitude is that you are lucky to be attending at AST. - Aug 2015

A -- Again, Discovery is a very welcoming environment to new students. The high ratio of expat students mean there is a fair amount of turnover each year and so they are used to having new students. - Aug 2013

A. Excellent. We were given a tour of the school, the teacher gave me her personal email address and phone number and went out of her way to introduce me to other parents so that play dates could be arranged. - Aug 2013

B - They gave us a tour of the school. - Apr 2013
