Berlin - School Report Question and Answers
Describe the physical education resources at the school. Is there a gym? A swimming pool? Are there playing fields or tennis courts available?
Germans take sports SERIOUSLY. P/E isn't graded on effort; students are expected to perform at certain levels, hit benchmarks, so kids that aren't as sports-oriented are going to get bad grades. There is a nice gym, and an older smaller one too. (That is, multiple gyms.) No swimming pool, but pools all around town. Track field, etc. Lots of sports available here. The school is used heavily throughout the week for sports. - Sep 2018
There are two sports teachers, one of whom is super-involved and runs most of the after school and GISST teams as well. The teachers also arranged for BIS kids to run in the Berlin Mini-Marathon and in tournaments throughout Germany and Europe. - Oct 2015
A They have PE class three days a week in either a large gym or the smaller gym. When possible they are outside. The school has a soccer field/fields and track. The school is also the location for several sports teams that students from JFKS and other schools participate in. Off the top of my head, there is gymnastics, Tae Kwan Do, basketball, lacrosse, flag football, basketball, tennis table, soccer and I am sure a bunch more I have forgotten. In third grade, students attend swimming lessons for part of their sports program. In 4th grade they go to the local bike school for their German bike license. - Apr 2014
