Beijing - School Report Question and Answers

Are students generally challenged appropriately by the curriculum? Please describe any particular strengths or weaknesses in this area. Do you have any thoughts how the curriculum is applied and implemented at this school?

Curriculum is challenging for most kids and our kids find it engaging. They love how their teachers make it come alive. The pace can be fast starting in 8th grade and there is opportunity in the flex periods 3 days a week to meet with teachers if kids have questions or need some more help or time on a project. My kids are aware that many of their classmates employ tutors outside of school. This semester we started a weekly Chinese language tutor for our high schooler in IB Chinese as he has taken one less year of Chinese language than most of his classmates. There are designated Wellness Weekends every month or so where teachers are not permitted to assign homework so kids can catch up or have more rest--this is an area for improvement for ISB as our kids have had to advocate for themselves to remind teachers to stick to this rule. Students at ISB generally study hard and perform at very high levels. - Jun 2023

I have been incredibly happy with WAB here. My child who needs extra support is in a math class that was designed for this type of student in mind. There is a small class size and a learning support teacher present and this child has thrived. My child who needs to be challenged in math has also been challenged. The way math is taught in middle schools allows for a range of needs to be met and for students to learn at their own pace within each until. - Dec 2022

WAB creates a deep love for learning that I know my children will carry with them wherever they go. In the ES they are essentially learning how to learn, building their passion for learning, and deeply understanding fundamental concepts. As they bridge into MS and HS the content becomes increasingly important and students are able to expand on their interests. - Nov 2022

My kids have enjoyed almost all of their classes. - Mar 2021

The schools motto is ‘Be Ambitious’ and it is evident in all aspects of student life. - Mar 2019

Yes, academically it is sound. - Apr 2018
