Is this a good city for LGBT expatriates? Why or why not?
Muslim/conservative culture is not good for LGBT people in my opinion. - May 2022
Not really LGBT friendly. There are no LGBT folks at the U.S. Embassy that I am aware of, probably as homosexuality is illegal for Malays. - Aug 2018
This is a mostly Muslim country, but I've heard it's tolerant compared to other Muslim countries. - Apr 2017
I don't know. Malaysia is a Muslim country, but reasonably tolerant considering. - May 2016
The LGBT culture here is very open. Since it's an Islamic country, it does have its restrictions, but as long as couples aren't heavily indulging in PDA's, it's all ok. - Aug 2013
Homosexuality, trans-sexuals, and/or gay/lesbian is present but due to this being a Muslim country, not recognized to be legitimate. - Aug 2011
Homosexuality is illegal in Malaysia, and definitely looked down upon by many to say the least. - Mar 2011
It is a Muslim country but there do seem to be quite a few gay and lesbian locals. - May 2009
The city is crawling with gays and lesbians. Even though the country is Muslim dominated, most gays/lesbians are left alone. - Jul 2008
I am sure it is. I have had gay friends come and visit and they seem to find plenty to do. There are lots of transvestites everywhere and they are accepted in society! Hair-dressers, clerks in stores, etc. - May 2008
