Cuenca is beautiful, with cool weather if you need a breather. It's a 3.5 hour drive. - Jun 2022
Cerro Blanco and ESPOL are good places to go hiking in the city. Reserva Manglares Churute is less than 2 hours away and also a great hike with howler monkeys. Cuenca is an old city with good food, interesting architecture, and a lovely river about 3 hours away. Lots of cute little beach towns with good seafood and surfing. - Oct 2020

Go out to eat; there is decent food here, but you have to constantly be adventurous and try new places and parts of town. Get a GPS so you feel more liberated to go places you haven't been. - Jan 2012
many beaches, closest one is Playas which is 1.5 hours drive and others are farther. Cuenca is a very nice city in the High-land with cool climate year-round, about 60s. There are volcanoes and jungles but I have not visited them. Then, there is the famous Galapagos. There's a movie theater near residences and it playsmany movies inEnglish with Spanish subtitles. Admission is $4.50 - Jan 2012
