What is the availability and cost of household help, and what types of help are typically employed by expatriates?

It is inexpensive and plentiful. The locals tend to be better than the West Africans, but both are available. - Sep 2022

Lots of availability. Approximately US$300 plus per month for full-time help. - Feb 2016

Consulate has a list of housekeepers and nannies. Very reasonable. Most housekeepers will clean, shop, and cook. Ours even helped us unpack when we moved into our apartment, bossed the movers around for us, and organized the furniture. A true housekeeper! - Jul 2014

Very available and there is a listing at the Consulate. We pay a bit higher than the going rate but it's still not high, US$25-$40/day depending on if childcare is also involved. Many of the ladies clean (extremely well), cook, and shop for groceries. - May 2014

Very cheap and high quality. I pay about $100 a month for a once-a-week cleaning and meals for 3-4 days. - Jun 2012

Plentiful and reasonably priced. Might not speak much english though. - Apr 2010

Maids, nannies and gardeners cost anywhere from 10-20 Euros a day. - Mar 2008
