Are local buses, trams, trains or taxis safe and affordable?
Safe, but often in mild disrepair. It actually adds charm. Rather than rickety, per se, it adds a patina of the past. Make sure you use the bathroom before hand, though. In general, public transport is very, very cheap. - Jul 2006
