Banjul - Post Report Question and Answers

What is your housing like? What are typical housing sizes, locations, and commute times for expatriates?

Large houses, commute 5-25 minutes maximum - Sep 2016

Most people live in Fajara, Bijilo or Brufut. Nobody lives in Banjul. Depending on where you live, commute times might be around 30 minutes as you try finding your way through the many taxis, donkey carts, etc. driving on the road. - Aug 2015

Embassy leased houses are fairly large, detached houses. Most are in Brufut, which is a 30-minute commute from the Embassy and a suburban-type area. I prefer the housing in Fajara and Kotu...less of a drive and you have real Gambian neighborhoods. - Jun 2014

All of the embassy housing are single family / detached homes. 80% of the homes have pools. A majority live in the Brufut area, with a few in Fajara and Bijilo. - Jun 2013

Housing varies and it is getting better and better. Most houses are 3-4 bedrms. Many houses have pools. A few are just a short walk from the ocean, but those are a bit farther out. From our house it is a 10-15 minute drive to the embassy. Some people have 20-25 mins, but traffic is generally light. - Sep 2011
