What kind of car do you recommend bringing to post, given the terrain, availability of parts, burglary/carjacking risks, etc.? What kind of car do you advise not to bring?
4 X 4 is recommended as most roads not paved off of the main highway. - Sep 2016

Toyota and Nissan are the best here for spare parts, etc. I would recommend a "true" 4WD car (where you can shift from 2WD or AWD into 4WD). Some of the dirt roads are very bumpy and the rainy season doesn't help. - Jun 2014
SUV with 4-wheel drive. Recommend bringing a Japanese make/model. A Ford dealership recently opened. The embassy mechanic can work on most POVs on his off-time, but parts may be hard to find for some vehicles. - Jun 2013
Some people get by with a standard car but 4WD is advisable. The streets off the main road are very bumpy and down right treacherous during rainy season. There are lots of Toyotas. - Sep 2011
