Banjul - Post Report Question and Answers

Are there any particular health concerns? What is the quality of available medical care? What medical conditions typically require medical evacuation?

Medical care is sub normal, but there are some doctors trained abroad that are technically proficient. Resources are limited. Any serious medical condition will certainly almost require medical evacuation. - Sep 2016

Many. Malaria is the biggest problem, so take your antimalarials. Most Europeans don't take them, but several of them died while we were there. There is a new Africmed clinic at Turntable which seems okay. The Sharab clinic is also good. Anything major needs a medevac to Dakar or UK. - Aug 2015

Medical care here is below Western standards. Anything that requires specialized care would be a medevac situation. This is by far the most challenging aspect of life here. - Jun 2014

Medical care is poor and it often takes a long time to get treated. Anything serious should be medevaced. - Jun 2013

This is the worst part of living here. The medical care is not good. There are some well trained doctors, but they don't have good supplies or equipment. It can be scary. - Sep 2011
