How would you describe the availability and cost of groceries and household supplies relative to your home country?
90% of groceries are available, but cost varies and quality varies. - Sep 2016
Fruits and veggies are cheap, but there is an increasing inflation. Regular groceries are about what they cost in the US. But milk, jogurt, cheese, and meat are pretty expensive. - Aug 2015
Groceries are diverse and relatively cheap, although European imported goods are much more expensive. You have more of a selection during tourist season but we haven't noticed anything essential going missing from the shelves during the off season either. I would for sure stock up on laundry detergent and soap products before coming here. - Jun 2014
There are a few bulk grocers that import from COSTCO or Europe. Produce is available on street corners and availabilty depends on the growing season. You can get most of what you want in The Gambia, it just depends on how much you want to pay for it. - Jun 2013
Groceries are difficult. They are VERY expensive, especially if imported. I would say things are two to three times more than in the States. You can shop at local markets for fresh items very cheaply. Also, compared to the rest of West Africa, we have some really great items available. You just have to decide if that $8 pint of ice cream is worth it this week. I went shopping today: head of lettuce: $8, box of U.S. cereal: $10, bottle of liquid detergent: $21.It should really be a consumable post. - Sep 2011
