Quality pet care available (vets & kennels)?
Yes. It's coming along, although Turkey is still using medications for people to treat their pets, as veterinary healthcare is expensive. I had a dickens of a time getting animal-specific medications in Istanbul. If I had it to do over again, I would have a Washington-based veterinarian who 1) knows your situation, 2) knows your pet, and 3) will ship medications to you with only a phone diagnosis. This is your best bet. There is prescription food available, though. Also available are simple medical procedures (dental care, x-rays, sonograms, etc.). - Oct 2010

Vets exist in expat neighborhoods. There are many stray dogs and cats. - Dec 2009
Kennels exist in the richer neighborhoods. Generally speaking, the older generation of Turks do not like dogs. Most of the apartments are not pet friendly and require you to walk your pet out of the garage instead of the main entrance. - Dec 2009
