Muscat - Post Report Question and Answers

How do you send and receive your letters and package mail? Are local postal facilities adequate?

We had APO. - Jan 2022

APO or pouch. I've never used the local postal facilities - Dec 2018

We have APO and pouch. APO is about 10 days on average to receive packages. The pouch can take up to a month sometimes. Note that our APO packages arrive DESTROYED. Basically every package you get will be smooshed and mangled. So delicate items should ship through the pouch. - Feb 2018

We have an APO at the Embassy. Mail takes a couple of weeks on average to get here from the US and from here back to the US. I have also ordered some things through the local post office. The way it works here, is an Embassy employee goes and collects your mail from the local post office for you and delivers it to your office. They do make a lot of mistakes (my package sat in the local post office for three weeks once, without anybody notifying me) but the option to use it is there, so that is good if you need something from East Asia and they won't deliver to an APO address. - Aug 2017

Post has both an APO and pouch address. - Oct 2014

We use the APO and it takes about two weeks from DC. - Jun 2012

APO. - May 2012

APO - Aug 2011

we have DPO - Feb 2011

We didn't. We didn't have the help of the company with this one. In hindsight (we are currently living in Doha, Qatar) I would definitely sign up for aramex which is available. - Apr 2010

The Embassy has pouch and APO - Feb 2010

The embassy has both APO and diplomatic pouch. - Jan 2010

Through the Embassy mail. - Mar 2009

Oman has a good postal system but no home delivery - your employer will, if it's not an embassy, likely have a P.O. box, or you can wait for one to become available if staying for very long (it generally takes one-three months to get a box). - Feb 2008
