Muscat - Post Report Question and Answers

Are local sports classes and/or activities available for kids?

Yes and no. Most are offered through TAISM. There are competitive soccer leagues (you have to try out). We found an informal field hockey program that has been great. But sadly there are no little league or rec basketball programs. - Feb 2018

Friend's kids take multiple musical instrument classes, like violin, piano and guitar. There is a lot of soccer here, as well as football, that kids can join. - Aug 2017

Both TAISM and ABA offer extracurricular sports for the students. - Oct 2014

Yes, there are some, but not unlimited. TAISM offers learn-to-swim classes for students and school sports, an Arenal-branded Soccer Club opened, there is a Rugby club at the British Academy and there's also an ice skating rink I just became aware of. - Jun 2012

Soccer, rugby, tae kwon do. TAISM also has a wide array of after school activities and a late bus to bring the kids home when they are done. - May 2012

Plenty....if they like soccer, rugby, and swimming. ABA has a good programs, TAISM not so much. - Aug 2011

Yes, some. - Feb 2011

Yes, TAISM at least, has all sorts of sports and things for the children. - Apr 2010

Schools do a great job of getting kids into after school activities. There are some local martial arts classes and beginning divers course for kids but these are expensive. - Feb 2010

I believe the schools -- TAISM, ABA -- have good sports programs for the kids. - Jan 2010

There is the Muscat Football League for soccer. TAISM give swim lessons on the weekends for their school kids. Also PDO (Petroleum...Oman) advertises sports activities, but we haven't participated in those. - Mar 2009
