What kind of car do you recommend bringing to post, given the terrain, availability of parts, burglary/carjacking risks, etc.? What kind of car do you advise not to bring?

A 4-wheel drive is necessary if you want to get around in the winter. Snow tires are mandatory if you cross into Quebec and might become mandatory in Ontario soon. For a country with so much snow, they do a poor job of cleaning the roads. - Oct 2009
