What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?

Nice, but you will have to do it yourself. There are restaurants but choice is limited, no clubs (beside the IWC). Some started home-restaurants, playing sport together, pub quizes, gluhweincontests and karaoke-nights etc make it fun. - Dec 2008
