Are credit cards widely accepted and safe to use locally? Are ATMs common and do you recommend using them? Are they safe to use?

Credit cards are widely accepted and safe to use. I only know of two ATMs that we should not use because of skimming. - Aug 2023

Yes. You don't need cash. ATMs are fine. - Dec 2022

Yes, all our credit cards are accepted here - Feb 2021

Yes, yes, and yes. - Sep 2020

Yes, we use them for everything. - Oct 2019

Yes, widely used. I have not heard of any ATM issues, but we prefer banks rather than free-standing ATMs after years in Russia where free-standing ATMs were not always trustworthy. - Mar 2017

Yes. Not all small vendors take credit cards so always keep some cash. ATMs are safe. You need a chip. If your company will give you a PIN, great. There are significant fees to opening a local bank account. If you have kids, it will probably be necessary. - Mar 2017

Easy, safe and readily available. Get a pin-and-chip card if you want to fit in. - Aug 2015

No problems...same as U.S. Make sure you have at least one card with a Smart Chip. If you don't know what that is, ask your bank. - Jun 2013

Safe, for the most part. - Feb 2011

No problems using ATMs or credit cards. - May 2009

ATMs are available and safe, just use common sense. You can use a credit card at the supermarkets without any problems, but it is mostly a cash society. - Nov 2008
