Is this a good city for LGBT expatriates? Why or why not?
Not the best since LGBTQ+ people in Qatar can experience legal persecution. You can can meet other people of the same community on apps and certain spaces, just understand there are risks and people in the community are understandly more reserved as a result. - Apr 2025
No. - Oct 2024
Not if it is something you like to advertise to be blunt. - Jun 2024
I don't have much experience with this but I would definitely say a hard no! This includes ASD, as they follow the "rules" of Qatar and do not promote LGBTQ what-so-ever. I believe it is illegal to even be homosexual as a Muslim so one can assume the tolerance is minimal of any of these identities. I feel there is no progression toward change in this arena so if this is important to you, re-think Qatar. - Oct 2023
Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar. That being said there is a decent underground population. - Jul 2022
On the surface, no. But having worked with and befriended a few within the LGBT community, I can say that there is certainly a healthy and vibrant LGBT scene in Doha. But it's "don't ask, don't tell," and it's all kept very hush-hush. - May 2017
On the surface, no, for obvious reasons. But there is a gay scene in Doha that is discreet but very active. - May 2017
No, homosexuality is "illegal" here... just like how they're talking about making anorexia "illegal." Yep cause it makes sense. - Feb 2015
No, this is a medieval Muslim country. - Mar 2012
Homosexuality is illegal here, as it is in the rest of the Gulf. There's probably an underground scene, but I don't know anything about it. - Mar 2012
I really don't know. This place is such a melange that I am sure gay people find their niche-- but not necessarily overtly. - Jan 2012
I believe there is a gay community, but they are mostly closeted because of Qatar's strict Muslim principles. - Jun 2011
Uh, NO. This is a Muslim country. - Oct 2010
There are no gay Muslims, right? - Dec 2009
There are no gay muslims, right? So I'd say no. - Sep 2008
