Rwanda has a sad recent story of genocide that has affected almost everything in the country. I suggest reading We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with Our Families Philip Gourevitch ; Shake Hands with the Devil Roméo Dallaire Scholastique Mukasonga "Cockroaches" - Oct 2023

There are lots of books about Rwanda's turbulent history that shed light onto the current situation. I found "We Wish to Inform You that Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With our Families" very insightful. Also check out "Do Not Disturb" for more commentary about current politics. - Aug 2023

Land of A Thousand Hills by Rosamond Carr. We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed. Hotel Rwanda. - Sep 2019

I loved "A Thousand Hills" by Stephen Kinzer. The movie "Hotel Rwanda" is a good insight into the 1994 genocide. The ripple effect of that is still felt in some aspects, and it is good to understand it. It is also interesting to watch "Gorillas in the Mist" about Dian Fossey who founded the gorilla preserve, and "Rising from Ashes" about the creation and growth of the Rwandan national cycling team. - Jan 2017
