Nicosia - Post Report Question and Answers
Are there any particular health concerns? What is the quality of available medical care? What medical conditions typically require medical evacuation?
Medical care is fine, but not always up to EU standards, and definitely not American standards. Adults have access to private hospitals, but children are only treated at the public hospital, which can be jarring if you're not prepared. There are good pediatricians and orthodontists here though. - Jan 2025
(speaking as a US-trained physician...) Medical training in Cyprus is limited, the good news is that most of the providers that embassy staff will encounter have trained outside Cyprus and have come back. Everyone I encountered seemed fine for common issues, although if there were a more complicated diagnosis or more serious treatment, I would get a state-side consult (cancer care, any major surgical intervention, etc.). - Aug 2022
It gets pretty hot in the summer months with a very dry heat so most people stay indoors. Medical care is pretty good. They don't typically medevac as even most major surgeries can be done here. - Aug 2022
For typical things, decent. For unusual situations, it may take some persistence. - Jul 2013
Okay, good for personal doctors; the hospital is fair. - Jun 2011
Generally, the medical care is quite good. No special health concerns. - Dec 2009
Our child was born here and we had no problems. The doctors were very personable, helpful and knowledgeable (Dr's actually have been known to make housecalls!). Medical care is one of the few things that is cheaper here than the States and we thought it was very good. - May 2008
