How would you describe the availability and cost of groceries and household supplies relative to your home country?

Staple foods are on par with costs in Washington DC. Some meat and fish can be a bit higher. Some imported items are a bit higher (like Ben & Jerrys Icecream), on the other hand, items that would be imported in the US, like European beers, dairy products, etc., are less costly. For whatever reason, in my opinion, beef here isn't very good. Sometimes you can find roast beef imported from France, and that is good. Otherwise, it's not worth eating. We found duck served well as a stand-in for beef. Pork is king; lamb also excellent. Chicken tastes, well, like chicken does everywhere. - Aug 2022

Comparable to the States. A few things are hard to find, but nothing you can't live without. For some reason they only sell jam, no jelly. And no Mountain Dew. Nothing that's a deal breaker. Grocery stores are very nice, modern, and clean. - Aug 2022

Produce still has a seasonal feel to it--amazing when it's in season, however briefly. The fruit/veg stand across from the embassy has a good selection. - Jul 2013

Good availability of groceries, but prices are high. - Jun 2011

Much more expensive than in the U.S., although you will find almost all the products you're looking for. - Dec 2009

Pretty much everything is available but it is very expensive. The produce is excellent. The beef not so much. - May 2008
