What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?
We get together regularly for dinners, birthday parties, and other holidays, usually at a restaurant or at someone's house. I am not aware of any groups or clubs. - Feb 2020
Any gatherings are advertised well through social media, so that's one way to meet people. Consulate parties and events are an opportunity to meet other expatriates. There are several American basketball players that play for a local women's team. We met them at a consulate function and later went to see them play. - Aug 2018

Lots of receptions and parties to observe everything from important political anniversaries to birthdays. Be prepared to deliver a toast when you attend especially if you're the only foreigner present -- the hosts will invariably expect you to say something. - Jan 2008
