Dushanbe - Post Report Question and Answers

What is the air quality like at post (good/moderate/bad)? Are there seasonal air quality issues? Does the air quality have an impact on health?

Air quality in Dushanbe is horrendous during the winter. I think this past year I think we were at over 300 AQI for a month straight. In the summer there are often dust storms that hang in the air. Only during a few months of the spring is the air clean and clear. However, most of the time you can escape the bad air by getting up into the mountains. Usually, 30 minutes of driving will get you well out of the bad spots. - Aug 2021

Air quality is seasonally poor. Some people seems impacted by the air, while others do not. If you have respiratory issues, living here could make them worse. Post provides high quality air purifiers for the residences and ensures that landlords seal the windows to help with indoor air quality. - Apr 2021

Air quality is not good. It's best in spring, but never "good". It's terrible in winters. - Jun 2020

Air quality is an occasional issue -- it's very dusty in summer. - Dec 2016

The air is dusty and the new coal plant is causing more pollution. It isn't horrible, though. - Dec 2015

Moderate. I had awful allergies in the spring but then again I have awful allergies everywhere. - Jun 2014

The air quality is fine. In the winter, you'll see more smoke in the air, but my family and I never thought twice about it. The summers can get hot, but you get used to it. Temperatures can reach 120F degrees in the Summer, but it never stopped us from a great run. - Mar 2014

At times it is poor. Pollution and dust can make for a very rough combination in the summer. - Oct 2013

It is normally good quality in the spring, summer, and fall. In the winter the villages that do not have electricity will burn anything they can find to stay warm, and the air becomes very smokey and smells terrible. - Jan 2012
