Canberra - Post Report Question and Answers

What is the overall climate: is it extremely hot or cold, wet or dry, at any time of year, for example?

Highs in the 90s, lows in the high 20s F. They only sell tiny ice scrapers which are more annoying than useful. It's pretty humid so winter frost on your windshield is a guarantee. All seasons here are pretty great. It is nice to get some warmth with a trip in winter, especially as it's US summer. - May 2023

Four seasons. Beautiful spring, hot summer, lovely fall and cold (but not too cold) winter. It probably snows in the Canberra area about once every 2-3 years, but there is skiing only a few hours away in the Snowy Mountains - Aug 2020

Hot dry summers, wonderful spring and fall, cold, but not snowy, winters. - May 2012

Hot, dry summers. Chilly, wet winters. The buildings aren't insulated like at home, so while the winters are relatively mild they are pretty chilly. - May 2011

We are having quite a bit of rain, but it has been a drought. - Dec 2010

There are 4 seasons. Spring and Fall are the lovliest. Winter can get cold, but mild compared to DC. Summer is hot and dry. - Nov 2010

Very similar to southwestern Texas. Hot, dry summers with cool wet winters. I saw only one snowfall ( in July!) the whole time I was there. - Apr 2010

Four seasons. Winter -5 to -10 Celcius , Spring +1 to + 10 C and Summer +10 to +30 C , Fall +10 to +1 C. Perfect climate, I should say! - Oct 2009

Currently Canberra is in a pretty bad drought. This means lots of water restrictions and not a lot of green grass in a city that was built to look much like a park. But there are 4 distinct seasons with no snow in the winter. - Apr 2009
