Are local buses, trams, trains or taxis safe and affordable?
Taxis are incredibly safe and affordable, again from a western Europe perspective. Buses are safe and even more affordable, but operate on a spoke and wheel system so can be inefficient for certain routings. There are no subways, trams, or trains. - May 2023
Yes. Buses are cheaper with a regular pass that you can apply for. Taxify and eCabs are the Maltese equivalent of Uber and Lyft. Other services are safe as well but just charge more. - Oct 2018
Taxis are generally safe (as safe as anybody can be on the roads in Malta). The white ones drive crazy because they're trying to hurry up and get back in the queue. eCabs and several others are very good. There is no tram or train. Buses are often over-crowded, terribly inefficient and take forever to get anywhere. Even the Maltese complain about them. The government has tried in a major way to make improvements, but efficiency in public transportation is important and efficiency is just not in the Maltese's nature. - Sep 2016
No trains. Taxis are safe and available by phone, they don't really drive around trolling for customers. Buses are convenient and affordable. Most routes will go to Valletta where there is a hub and spurs off to other routes. - Jan 2014

Local buses are affordable but run on their own schedule and occasionally on their own routes. Bus driver's are notoriously crass and boorish. Taxis are terribly expensive even for short distances. Call Wembley or other call service for something reasonable. - Feb 2010
