Is it easy to make friends with locals here? Are there any prejudices or any ethnic groups who might feel uncomfortable here?
People are friendly with each other, but I have not seen many friendships between locals and expats here other than transactional. Financial and cultural disparity are probably the main driver for this. You don't see locals riding around with expats on BMW adventure bikes here. The faux-impoverished hippy expats are tolerated by the locals, but are not beloved. - Aug 2021
Vietnamese people are pretty friendly, direct, and open to foreigners, much more than other parts of Asia. A smile and a good sense of humor go a long way here, and friendships can be pretty long-lasting. - Dec 2019
