Johannesburg - Post Report Question and Answers

What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?

Enjoy some world class and cheap restaurants, go hiking on the weekend, take a trip to Madikwe or the Drakensbergs. - Aug 2023

We joined the Country Club Johannesburg for R20,000 a year for the family to access their golf courses and facilities. Best decision of my life. Never again will I have access to such comfort and community (wine tasting nights, Friday evening bouncy castles, camp-outs) in an entirely safe environment. - Jun 2022

South Africans are very friendly. We socialize with other expats, with our neighbors, with friends met thrugh the kids' activities, via adult sports activities, etc. Follow your interests and you'll easily find friends. - Apr 2017

great social life opportunities. plenty of clubs, restaurants, and lounges. - Aug 2011

Social life is good. Many lounges and Clubs if you like that. Restaurants are good. Good theatre, concerts and art, too. Among the embassy community, someone is always hosting a dinner or party. - Jul 2010

Eating out, clubs, bars, braiis (BBQ's). Great theatre. An obnoxious casino--Montecasino--where all the teenagers hang out. TRAVEL! - Oct 2009
