Toronto - Post Report Question and Answers
Are there personal security concerns to be aware of at this post? Please describe.
No - Aug 2022
Relatively safe to very safe. Typical of any large, US city. Some parts are safer than others after dark. - Jun 2018
Like any big city. - Apr 2018
The city is safe for its size, just be aware of your surroundings. - Nov 2016
None, just use common sense like you would in NYC or Chicago, or LA. - Oct 2016
Not really. Toronto is one of the largest cities in North America, but it's also one of the safest. It does have it's big city problems (there is some gang violence) and the other usual stuff (meaning keep your car, front door, and bike locked up). I've never felt unsafe living here. - Nov 2015
Take the same precautions you would take anywhere in the world. Canadians are pretty trusting, almost to a fault. I have had numerous occasions in coffee shops where strangers would ask me to watch over their stuff whilst they went to the bathroom. There was a recent bomb threat against e consulate, and there have been shootings connected to terrorism. Immigration seems to be fairly easy here, so it's no surprise that such attacks have occurred. - Jul 2015
Very, very little violent crime in this city, but be sure to lock your car doors if you don't have a garage. I have heard of a few cases of theft from cars if the windows are open or the doors are unlocked. - Jan 2013
No, Toronto is very safe for its size, safer than American cities of the same size. I feel safe as a young woman walking alone at night downtown. - May 2010
Toronto is much safer that a comparable-sized U.S. city. I dropped my wallet at a huge downtown shopping mall and it had been turned into the lost and found with not a dollar missing within an hour. - Apr 2010
Some, mostly petty crimes. - Aug 2008
Safer than any comparable city in U.S. - Jan 2008
