Beirut - Post Report Question and Answers

Are qualified veterinarians and/or good kennel services available? Do animals need to be quarantined upon entry to the country? Are there other considerations regarding pets that are particular to this country?

There are some vets and a grooming service that is quite popular with the embassy personnel. I'm not really sure of the quarantine rules, as I don't have pets. Management is on top of all of this though and can get you the information you need. Many people adopt here, be it dogs or cats. The compound has a few cats, that several people feed, so if you're a cat person maybe you can adopt one of the compound cats. - Aug 2024

In the past there were a handful of people who brought pets, but with the recent OD situation and stresses from that it seems like a less than ideal choice for Beirut. I'm not sure if access to veterinarians has been impacted by the stricter movement restrictions. - Oct 2020

A few people have pets and it sounds like there are a few veterinarians here. - May 2019

There is no requirement for quarantine, and you can find quality vet care, though this will count as a move and your dog will have to be crated in the vehicle. Aside from moves to the vet, your pet is not allowed to join you on personal moves, so they too will be restricted to the compound, which is tougher on the larger breeds than the small ones. During the last draw down, evacuees were not able to bring their pets along with them. With the security situation as it is, consider long and hard whether you would be willing to leave your pet behind. - Nov 2014

Pets are taken care of. Veterinary care is readily available and a vet can be easily accessed. Be sure that your pet has all of its shots. - Apr 2014
