Paris - Post Report Question and Answers

How do you send and receive your letters and package mail? Are local postal facilities adequate?

Customer service for postal services is a problem. - Aug 2022

There are a lot of problems with receiving mail at the compounds. Unless you are there to physically receive a package, it cannot be left. Colleagues that live in Paris often have guardian who can receive packages or they can be left at your door. Items cannot be delivered to the embassy and lockboxes are a 15-20 minute walk. You can receive letters. - May 2022

French postal system is fast across the country and affordable to send to the US. - Sep 2021

DPO or Pouch. Local post readily available as well. - Jul 2020

Diplomatic Post Office. - Jan 2018

Mainly through the DPO. French post is excellent and we receive local mail at our apartment. - Aug 2015

Via embassy DPO. - Feb 2015

DPO - Jun 2013

The embassy has a Diplomatic Post Office. Letters and packages have come through the regular mail system very quickly. - Jan 2011

Fortunately, we have a DPO address, and I order through Amazon.com and other online retailers regularly. We even order dog food by mail. The Science Diet we feed our dog costs four times as much if we buy it here! - Sep 2010

Since we have APO (now DPO) access, we get most of our letters and packages through that system. 7-10 days from the East Coast is the norm. It is more expensive but faster for people to send things from the U.S. directly to our Paris street address. - Apr 2009

The French postal system is reliable. - Dec 2008

I have access to the APO, but the local post offices are very reliable and not too expensive to send letters/postcards. You can also get money orders at the local post offices and they are all over the city. - Jun 2008
