Chiang Mai - Post Report Question and Answers

Are there problems with ethnic, race/racial minorities or religious prejudices? Gender equality?

Not that I know of per se. I'm sure they exist, but nothing that I've experienced. Overall Thais are an extremely accepting and courteous people. - Mar 2019

The Thais can be prejudiced against the Hill Tribe people from the North. It is rare to see a person of African descent in Chiang Mai, and African-Americans residents/tourists might get some stares. Regardless of their private views, most Thais treat everyone with kindness and respect. Most Thais are Buddhist; they are very tolerant of other religions. - May 2007
