Monterrey - Post Report Question and Answers
How do you send and receive your letters and package mail? Are local postal facilities adequate?
Credentialed diplomats typically use a U.S.-based mailing address (usually in Texas), with shipments brought to Monterrey by ground transportation. This process adds a few extra days compared to standard domestic U.S. shipping. However, this option is not available to all expatriates. For others, international shipping via private carriers (like DHL, FedEx, and UPS) is more reliable than the local postal service, which is generally considered slow and inconsistent. - Mar 2025
Everything is shipped to a PO Box in Texas and then brought by truck to Monterrey. It takes about an extra three days to receive things than it would if you were shipping within the U.S. - Feb 2021

Pouch. - Oct 2010
We have the pouch through the consulate and it's been wonderful. Those not with the consulate get PO Boxes in McAllen or Laredo, and then check them every few months. - Jul 2010
There are a few mail centers in San Pedro that give you a US street address (in Texas) and your mail gets driven to your PO box here every day. This is great for regular mail and magazines. Packages are more tricky because they have to clear customs. This can take forever. - Jan 2008
