Singapore - Post Report Question and Answers

What typical restaurants, food delivery services, and/or takeout options are popular among expatriates?

Foodpanda, Grab, and Deliveroo all deliver from local restaurants and some fast food places. McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Little Caesar’s, KFC, Burger King are all here, with local flavors on the menu in addition to what Americans are used to. Note, pizza places often do not use pork for toppings as the restaurants may be halal due to Singapore’s substantial Muslim population. Other restaurants as well, but many Americans may be surprised they can only get beef pepperoni at Pizza Hut. - Mar 2022

All fast food restaurants are available! The cost is pretty comparative to U.S. if not a bit higher. I cannot vouch for the taste. - Aug 2015

Everything you can imagine, costs nearly twice as much as U.S. - Aug 2015

Everything is available. Restaurants=$50 minimum/couple; fast food=$25/couple; Hawker centers=$15/couple. - Apr 2012

They have most US fast food restaurants, though the one Wendy's flooded the day after it opened in 2010.Not sure if it reopened. The cost of restaurants is comparable to the USA. - Nov 2011

There is no shortage of food here. You can probably find anything you are looking for. - Mar 2010

Every fast food franchise known to Americans, and all over the place, plus lots of local franchises (the Breadtalk outlets are my own favorite for street snacks and decent French bread). For some reason the only place I've been able to find a milkshake is Carl Jr.'s. Hawker centers have food cheaper than you can make at home, but their ambience leaves everything to be desired, and the labeling tends to be in Chinese, so sometimes you're surprised at what you've ordered from a luridly-rendered picture. Noisy and chaotic environments, daunting to small children who don't recognize the food. Restaurants in malls have higher standards and higher prices. Stand-alone and hotel restaurants are outside our experience. - Dec 2008

Lots of fast food: McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Carl's Jr. Lots of decent restaurants - our favorite was La Forketta, a moderately priced Italian restaurant with several outlets. Hawker centers are plentiful, safe, and cheap for a quick meal. - Aug 2008

You can find just about anything from any country to eat here. Alcohol is very expensive, as is western food. Local food is cheap and good. - Jun 2008
