What are the particular advantages of living in this city?
Advantages: Large city, easily walkable, great history, easy access by flights or train to other areas in Italy and the larger Europe, good weather, mix of beaches and mountains. Disadvantages: It's city living - someone with a large family that wants a big house with a pool may be disappointed. Some people claim that it is "hard to get things done" in Italy, largely in terms of utilities, phones, appointments, etc. I agree, but I also find that the MGT section of the mission is very helpful is making these things run smoothly. - Sep 2022

Fantastic food, great travel opportunities to interesting sites in and around all of Italy from mountains to beaches and everything in between, easy and quick connections to most other European cities, great history and historic sites within Rome, vast differences in culture between north and south. The cost of living in Rome is, in many respects, as high as in NYC or WDC or Boston, and foreigners pay more than Italians to see some historical sites---so if saving money is a priority, be prepared to be very frugal indeed. - May 2013
There are numerous advantages to living in Rome. If you like Italian food, pasta, pizza, and gelato, this is a pretty good place. There are a few famous sites to see, as well, and most of them are free. The weather seems always better than expected. In general, you will become better-looking the longer you stay in Rome, or at least more fashionable. Also, there are enough day-trip and weekend-trip opportunities to fill a lifetime, so I suggest you make a list and prioritize it. - Apr 2012
