Rome - Post Report Question and Answers

What typical restaurants, food delivery services, and/or takeout options are popular among expatriates?

It's Rome, take a guess. Food delivery does exist here, it became especially popular during the pandemic, but seems to be losing some popularity. Italians take pride in their food and don't like packaging some carbonara and caprese in a "to-go" box for someone to deliver to you cold. - Sep 2022

Large number of fantastic Italian restaurants at varying prices, however, many are surprised that much like in North America, for every good place, there are at least 2-3 bad ones. Not every place you will eat here will blow your mind. Important to go on recommendations. Variety and quality of ethnic food is very, very low. - Oct 2014

McDonald's and Burger King have US-comparable prices. There are many Italian pizza and panini places, both fast-food and restaurant-quality, where you can expect to pay between €10-€40. There are decent Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, Asian fusion, etc., available at prices ranging from €20-€50 per person. - May 2013

I think this question needs to be changed for Italy as fast food is the polar opposite of decent restaurants. This is where slow food was born! There are excellent Italian restaurants in every neighborhood. There are also a lot of ethnic restaurants of various quality. Pick one out and make it your own. - Apr 2012

You can find pizza, panini, and pasta to your hearts content. You can get lunch for 6-10 euro or spend 30-40 if you go upscale. - Aug 2010

Pizza and sandwich places are everywhere- and are very good! McDonald's is also pretty easy to find if you want American fast food. As far as more formal dining options, Italian food is fantastic. They don't always have highchairs or kids portions, but they will happily accommodate children. - Apr 2009

Italy is all about food: food for every budget, every taste and every need for speed. All food is very fresh, as preservatives are rarely used and Italy is all farms and hill towns. But if you want McDonald's or Burger King, there's plenty of that here too! It runs us about 25 Euros (over $30), though to feed a family of five... not the least expensive way to feed a family in Rome at all. There is a coffee bar on every block with wonderful premade sandwiches and assorted goodies at much more reasonable prices - and fresher food. For my food dollar, that's a better choice than McDonald's any day. - Feb 2008
