Conakry - Post Report Question and Answers
Is this a "shopping post"? Are there interesting handicrafts, artwork, antiques, or other items that people typically buy there?
Local art is okay (wood carving, pictures, jewelry), but not particularly good quality or craftsmanship. You can find amazing tailors, though. Great fabric. - Sep 2022
Not a mall-type shopping post. But yes, Guinean musical instruments are coveted throughout the region: drums, koras, balafons. You can also get quirky wood carvings, furniture, statuettes. It is also great if you like African fabric (both the made-in-Holland type and handmade Guinean tie-dye), and you can have local tailors make anything you conceive of. - Jun 2021

Guinea is known for its indigo fabrics. Artwork of the Kissi peoples from the forest region (Kissidougou and Foreariah) is particularly lovely, and Mandingo masks and drums are always interesting. - Mar 2008
