Guatemala City - Post Report Question and Answers

What is your home city/country? How long is the trip to post from there, with what connections? How easy/difficult is it to travel to this city/country?

I am from the United States. It is easy to return home with lots of connections in Houston and Miami. - Mar 2023

I can speak to traveling to Washington, DC, and New York. From Guatemala, there are sometimes direct flights to Dulles, Newark, and JFK. In the time I've been in Guatemala, the schedules have changed, so direct flights are not always offered, or they might be offered only on certain days of the week. If flying on US carriers, you can easily transit through Miami (American), DFW (American), Houston (United), and Atlanta (Delta). Getting to any of those connection points is an easy 2.5- to 3.5-hour flight. - Oct 2022

DC. Most days United has one non-stop flight from DC, which only takes 4.5 hours and is extremely convenient. We've found it to be much longer and much more expensive to visit family on the west coast and in the midwest. - Oct 2022

My home city is Houston and the trip from Houston to Guatemala is about 3 hours direct flight and very economical. It is fairly easy to travel to Guatemala no visa is required for less than 90 days. Currently with COVID you must have a vaccine or a antigen test upon arrival at the airport. However, you can also have a test conducted at the airport for entry into the county, but typically there is a long line for the testing. - Jul 2021

You can fly direct to Houston, Miami, and Atlanta within 3-4 hours, often very cheaply. DC requires a layover in one of the afore-mentioned cities. It usually took us one full day of travel either way, once you factor in layovers. The Fly America Act means that we're limited to some of the worst schedule options, but there are very easy flights if you are paying out of pocket. We specifically chose this post to be close to family in the US in case of emergency, and that worked out well. - Jan 2020

It's a three-and-a-half-hour flight from Guatemala City to Atlanta on Delta, with frequent connections to all East Coast cities from there. The flights are on the expensive side, but are easily found, with morning and afternoon flights available. - Mar 2019

US to Guatemala, thru Atlanta or Miami is fairly easy, if coming from DC. Guate airport is small and easily navigated; parking, including diplomatic, right on the curb - Feb 2019

United has a direct 5-hour flight to DC one or two days a week, otherwise connect in Miami, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, San Salvador, ect. Can be in Miami in two hours. - Jun 2015

West Coast. It's about 7 hours total with a stop in Dallas/Fort Worth. - Apr 2014

My home base is in South America, and the most convenient flight is with Copa Airlines. It takes between 10-20 hours, depending on the length of the layover in Panama City. - Jan 2014

Washington, DC. It takes about five hours or so. - Nov 2011

DC, usually connect in Miami, about 5 hour trip total. - May 2010
