Guatemala City - Post Report Question and Answers

Are qualified veterinarians and/or good kennel services available? Do animals need to be quarantined upon entry to the country? Are there other considerations regarding pets that are particular to this country?

Excellent veterinarians. There are affordable boarding options. - Mar 2023

Standard pet import forms for US pets with no quarantine. Vets are great, inexpensive, and there are some that do house calls, which is amazing. Anti-heartworm medication can be purchased over the counter. I really have not seen too much of a problem with fleas or ticks here either, though my pets do not go off leash anywhere. Dog parks are almost unheard of, which is strange given the popularity of dogs. There are some parks where they are allowed off leash, but no fenced-in dog parks. - Oct 2022

Vets are great, no quarantine is necessary, and it was very easy bringing our animals into the country. Vets and groomers will do house calls and doggy day cares will come pick up your dog for the day and bring them home in the evening. - Oct 2022

We found it easy to get our cat here as in-cabin luggage, but we've heard horror stories about pets coming as cargo or baggage. There's a great vet in Cayala that helped us in an emergency. - Jan 2020

Veterinarians (and gun stores!) all over the place. Unsure quality. No quarantine. - Feb 2019

No quarantine. I adopted my cat here and have been very happy with the quality of pet care. I love my vet. Like medical care, getting appointments is easy, vets will make house calls, prices are lower, and professionals have more time to spend answering questions. - Jun 2015

No need for quarantine, just proper paperwork from your home Government's animal health agency. Many good vets and pet stores around town. - Jan 2014

No. - May 2010
