Guatemala City - Post Report Question and Answers

What household or grocery items do you wish you had shipped to post?

Brown sugar. Other than that you can find most things here. - Mar 2023

Cleaning products here tend to be heavily scented. I shipped in several bottles of Soft Scrub and wish I had brought more. Everything else is available locally, including imported olive oils, American brands of laundry detergents (including unscented options), paper towels, toilet paper. I would only recommend shipping in items that you are picky about. - Oct 2022

I would have brought a bulk supply of spray sunscreen in our HHE. The high altitude sun means you'll burn within minutes, so we go through a lot. Spray sunscreen is pretty expensive here and obviously can't be ordered in the mail. We don't have access to a gym or pool at our house, so I wish I'd brought a treadmill. And an extra freezer to stash PriceSmart freezer items. :) - Oct 2022

Nothing. I find everything I need in Guatemala. - Jul 2021

A few of the more obscure baking products: whole wheat flour, specialty tofu, some Asian chili blends. Nothing major. - Jan 2020

More sunscreen! Particularly waterproof sunscreen for kids at the pool, and facial sunscreen for adults. The selection here is lacking and expensive, and sun damage comes on strong and fast, particularly because of the altitude. The longer we're here, the more I resemble an expensive leather handbag. - Mar 2019

Wine that isn't from South America and beer that isn't Gallo. - Jun 2015

Maple syrup, natural peanut butter, some specialty baking items, toys (are available here, but expensive!) and any specific items you can't live without. - Apr 2014

Rock Salt for your ice-cream maker. - May 2010

Almost everything is available here. - Mar 2008
