Guatemala City - Post Report Question and Answers

What kinds of gyms or other sports/workout facilities are available? Are they expensive?

Families living in Las Ramblas will have free access to a good gym. You will also find Fitness 1 and other fitness options throughout the city. Some of the apartment buildings have gyms as well. - Mar 2023

They are available, and so are personal trainers who will come to your residence; I don't use them. Gated communities often have their own gyms and swimming pools for exercise as well, often included with residency. Some require additional membership fees, though. The gym in my community has huge sliding glass doors and excellent air circulation. - Oct 2022

Lots of gyms, but yes, they're a bit pricy. And driving and parking is such a hassle here that I don't think it's worth going to one if you can't walk to it. - Oct 2022

There is Orange Theory here which is a bit pricey compared to U.S. prices. However, if you are already a member in the U.S. you can continue using it here. There is one in Zone 15 and Zone 10 both very nice and well equipped. There is also franchise called Fitness One they provide a full gym, with saunas/pool/tanning beds/ and massage services for $80 a month. Also, a bit pricey compared to what you can find in the U.S. but we still use them. - Jul 2021

There are many luxury gym options around town, from Orange Theory-type places to huge gym complexes. They cost around $80/month or more. - Jan 2020

Many residential communities and apartment buildings have their own gyms (with no membership fee required for residents). The city has many other gyms that you can join, as well, ranging from CrossFit gyms to Orange Theory to HIIT classes. A large gym in our part of the city also has a heated indoor pool with swim classes offered for adults and children. - Mar 2019

Many gyms located about town. Some apartment buildings have these included, including private gyms or rooftop infinity poos with views of the volcanoes. 2017 pricing 'Alive' gym (z10) = 650q/mo for annual membership with 4 mos free at end. (special) 'Fitness One' and futeca are options. There are also various yoga, spin classes (AVIA bldg) around. - Feb 2019

Most people who live in apartments have access to gyms in their buildings. There are also public gyms - I think Futeca is the nicest - and a surprisingly active running culture that organizes group training runs, weekly races all over the country, etc. You can also take tennis classes from internationally competitive players for US$10-15/lesson. - Jun 2015

Most apartment buildings have gyms, hot tubs, and pools. There's a tiny gym at the Embassy. Futeca is another option. Not sure of the price. - Apr 2014

Yes. Most upscale apartment buildings have well equipped gyms themselves, and for the workout aficionados there are some good options like Futeca Sport Gym and World Gym. Costs are moderate. - Jan 2014

Yes, there a number of gyms and athletic clubs. It all depends on what you want to pay. - Nov 2011

Futeca Sport in Zone 14. Scandinavian Gyms are pretty good, too. Since there is not a lot going on in the city, going to the gym is one of the more interesting things to do. - May 2010
