Is high-speed home Internet access available? How long does it typically take to install it after arrival?

Yes, it is available. The quality fluctuates due to throttling and power outages. - Dec 2024

Our section already had our internet installed when we arrived. The internet is high-speed but it can go offline randomly due to the power lines. There are less frequent blackouts that usually get resolved quickly but it was worse when we first arrived in 2022. - Mar 2024

"High-speed" is relative, as sometimes it works, most times it doesn't. Getting it installed requires someone who can speak Lao and communicate your needs. You pre-pay internet for 6 or 12 months. The first few months it works well, after that, it becomes more spotty. - Mar 2023

It takes a while (up to 30 days) to install. We were able to stream Netflix with no issues. - Jun 2020

Yes. Installation takes two - three weeks. - Oct 2018

When we were there internet was provided by the Embassy. It was nice to have but would fail often. There were 3-4 outside companies that provided service. PlanetOnline I recall being more popular and offering better speeds. We paid for a full year when we signed up about US$150-$200, I think. - Jan 2014
