This is the US... at first I was really scared of all the sirens or problems on the metro.. but now I just live. - May 2016
DC is like other big U.S. cities - you take care, especially at night. But generally it's fine. The city is gentrifying very quickly and problem areas are changing. Believe me I lived here in the 90s when things were much much worse. - Jun 2006
