Are there problems with ethnic, race/racial minorities or religious prejudices? Gender equality?

Yes, there is racism here. But it is often subtle and usually socio-economically based. I've also witnessed and experienced a bit of xenophobia here in the past year - but I've found that elsewhere in the US too. My big smile and Aussie accent usually helps smooth things over. - Jun 2006
