What types of jobs do most expatriate spouses/partners have? Locally based or telecommuting? Full-time or part-time? Can you comment on local salary scales?

No direct experience. Decent French is usually going to be required, or at least a big plus, but not always. Plus, there are some distinct pockets of more French and more English-speaking areas of Montreal, so if you do not speak French, you could work in the more English area.
